The Pitt County Board of Elections wants more than your vote, it wants your friendship.
Elections director David Davis created a Facebook page for his office to educate the public about pending elections and his organization’s operations. The site went up last month and has 20 friends.
“I try to use every means of media I can to get information out,” Davis said. “That is the main social media that people are using now, along with Twitter.
“Plus with Facebook, it’s free,” he said.
Davis posts information about meetings, training events and other election-related activities on the site. People can go there to get details about local and state political parties and find out who currently holds local, state and federal offices related to Pitt County and North Carolina.
“We have photos of all the (Pitt County) polling places along with the addresses so (people) can have the address plus the visuals,” he said.
“I hope to get candidate information out there, possibly with photos and contact information and such,” Davis said.
Davis also hopes to encourage the public to use the site to discuss issues such as the location of early voting polling places.
“We’re going to try and put out what we can,” he said.
Individuals interested in connecting with the elections board on Facebook should search for “Pitt County Board of Elections” and click “Become a fan.”
